Our chances just improved. Hinton is suspended for the first three games. Timing is everything.

That definitely improves our chances. He was a backup last year, but a pretty experienced backup, with 4 career starts, Few felt that their offense was going to skip a beat.

In all seriousness what I hope to see that night is for us to win with our offense looking really good. We have a fifth year QB who is in the same system two years in a row for the first time in his career. He finished strong as we opened things up. Defensively we got some players in early on defense on the line that could really help. As to ST's hopefully the new kid Wright is the answer to our kicking woes. I have more faith in the defense stepping up than I do there though. Hopefully the offense looks so good we leave there saying we would have won even if Hinton played.

First 3 games for Wake are us, Towson, and home to BC. Hopefully they can win that BC game and continue on to have a good year in the ACC. Win against Wake would be a real statement, but only if they have a decent season.

Not meant to be just had it been the week of the game then it would be better. Just saying the other QB now has 3 months to get prepared. That’s a lot of time. Just read that he was a potential starter. He was backup last year.
From the story:
Hinton was the team’s No. 2 quarterback behind John Wolford in 2017. He was 27-47 passing for 399 yards and four touchdowns. A redshirt junior in 2018, Hinton was likely going to be Wake’s starting quarterback. His suspension opens the door for Jamie Newman, who threw only four passes in 2017. Wake Forest opens with two winnable games against Tulane and Towson in 2018.

You know I was just kidding. /without a doubt though it's a good break for us and we'll take all the help we can get. I also hope the coaches plaster that last comment in that article all over the locker room.

Your post is a little confusing. Hinton, who is the one suspended, was the backup last year. Newman not so much.

Here’s the full article: last year Hinton was #2 and the guy that will start Newman was #3 last season. So neither started last year.

Newman is definitely a downgrade.

Yes. But he’ll get a lot more work now to prepare for his start.

And they have all five starters back from an outstanding offensive line. They'll probably still run their up tempo offense, which at times last year was running plays at 12 second intervals. We better find a way to get them off the field, or our D will be gassed. And it's not like we're going to have some great big coaching advantage; their coach is every bit as well respected as Coach Fritz.

as Mike Leach say's...."son you are on a grant in aide, go out and prove you deserve it."...Leach recruited every kid to be a starter, and if you don't recruit that way, then you are going to get your collective ass kicked

This is the Wake Forest SB Nation site, if anyone wants to see the other side's viewpoint. Their TE is suspended as well as their QB. Some of the comments are insightful because it seems a few people went to their spring game.

We all know that. It doesn't change the fact that it's not Hinton who had some starts and was going to likely progress during the year and have a good year. This kid hasn't played a meaningful snap and we get him in his first game. So it's a big break for us.
