Chandler led his junior college pitching staff at Iowa Western, going 11-0 with a 1.34 ERA and 123 strikeouts in 74 innings, including five complete games. Pitching out of a high three-quarters delivery, the 6-foot-5, 200-pound right-hander will sit 91-to-93 mph with his fastball and touch 95, and he'll spin some curveballs. Chandler hides the ball well, and he's been improving.

Would love to have Chandler but that's college baseball. At least we now have a pitching coach that can coach up who we do have.

Not much money there. He’d be better to attend Tulane and improve his draft status next go around.

Hard to tell a 17 or 18 year old that $264K is "not a lot of money". Then turn around and ask him to spend about that much (less financial aid and/or scholarship money) to enroll at Tulane.

Except he’s closer to 21 otherwise he wouldn’t be draft eligible unless in HS. To be draft eligible must either completed their junior or senior years or are at least 21 years old.

He’s probably 21-22 but I believe all JUCO players are eligible to be drafted. Regardless of age or class.

My bad, Show Me, I thought he was a HS kid based upon the comment "he'd be better off coming to Tulane to improve his draft status". He is 21 years old, and was picked in the 32nd round by Milwaukee 3 years ago. So he improved by 26 rounds by spending a year at Nebraska and then going to JUCO.

LOL, and look at what happened to our great Frosh pitcher (Massey?) when TJ became coach. We know Latham is a much better pitching coach than what we had the last two years. But does this young man want to take a risk like that?

Yes on all JUCO being draft eligible. I left that out. Thanks.
Certain groups of players are ineligible for selection, generally because they are still in school. The basic categories of players eligible to be drafted are:

High school players, if they have graduated from high school and have not yet attended college or junior college;
College players, from four-year colleges who have either completed their junior or senior years or are at least 21 years old; and
Junior college players, regardless of how many years of school they have completed

No problem. Just think if he has a great year under Latham he could go higher. I’m sure he has a good financial package to come here.

And if he comes in and has a bad year or blows his arm out he’s losing out on 200K. If they drafted him that early they probably know that they have a good chance to sign him.

I thought you had to be 3 years removed from your HS graduating class if you didn't go pro after HS?

Isn't Hoese going to be a true Junior? I really don't know the rules any more.

21 years old. LSU’s Zack Hess is also a true sophomore who was drafted this year
