Athlon:

1. McKenzie Milton, UCF
2. Malcolm Perry, Navy
3. Jonathan Banks, Tulane
4. Ben Hicks, SMU
5. D’Eriq King, Houston
6. Frank Nutile, Temple
7. David Moore, Memphis
8. Hayden Moore, Cincinnati
9. Chris Oladokun, USF
10. Luke Skipper, Tulsa
11. David Pindell, UConn
12. Reid Herring, East Carolina
3. Jonathan Banks, Tulane

Putting Banks over SMU’s Ben Hicks and Houston’s D’Eriq King might come as a surprise to some, but we think Banks is headed for a huge 2018 season. The Texas native came to New Orleans after a season at Independence Community College. In his first year at the controls for coach Willie Fritz, Banks threw for 1,797 yards and 12 touchdowns and rushed for 592 yards and seven scores. With another offseason to work as the starter, Banks should thrive under the direction of Fritz and coordinator Doug Ruse.

Underdog Dynasty:

Rankings by unit

Elite
1. UCF
2. SMU
3. Houston
Second Tier
4. Navy
5. Tulane
6. Temple
Wait And See
7. Cincinnati
8. USF
9. Memphis
Room For Improvement
10. Tulsa
11. UCONN
12. ECU
5. Tulane: Jonathan Banks is the biggest reason why the Green Wave offense had some life last year, and he returns. Going with the theme of the conference, his backup is also transferring. Jonathan Brantley took over when Banks was injured a few times last year, and the offense seemed to keep humming along. With Brantley gone, Banks needs to stay healthy, but shouldn’t have to worry about carrying the team with the weapons around him.

Very fair. I could see Banks taking over games and shredding defenses this year!

Surprised that the unit ranked out at 5. Seems like we would fall apart if Banks got injured

If he stays healthy he'll be ranked #1 at the end of the season.

That's a bold prediction for a QB in a run first offense. And yes, I know, he averaged over 200 yards passing per game the last 5 or so games of the season. He needs to NOT be our leading ball carrier in order for this offense to take off.

If this team is going to win 7 or more games, Dauphine AND Bradwell should have a whole lot more rushing yards than Banks. And the passing game might average 200 yards per game over the season if we rush for 300+ like we should.

Hey there's some hyperbole there but WTF. Why not. We haven't had a season to look forward to for a long time. He's the reason we're looking forward to it. We won't be a run centric offense anymore just as we weren't at the end of last season. Willie doesn't want to fail and he's seen the light as long as we have Banks. So let's sit back and enjoy.

After gettting the chance to talk to this kid, I can assure you guys that he is plenty piss about the SMU game, and wants some payback. I think he is going to shine this year. Also, our offense really might be something to see.
