SELA did beat us head to head at Tulane. Our RPI is higher because Ole Miss is carrying the load. Still too early to compare RPI’s.

I fear that the hassle of getting good players into Tulane for baseball isn’t worth the risk for the top head coach candidates . (AC being the exception for obvious reasons) . Jones wasn’t just making idle excuses when the program started slipping under him. It’s not impossible to get lucky on a handful of rich smart kids every once in a while. But it damn sure ain’t easy.

Right. Jones gave them their first coaching jobs.
Riser, a Picayune, Miss., native, began his coaching career after completing his collegiate career at Tulane, where he played in 2005-06. Prior to his time in New Orleans, Riser played under Artigues, the former Southeastern head coach and current director of athletics, for two seasons at Pearl River Community College.
Prior to arriving in Normal, Mohl spent three seasons at his alma mater, assisting Tulane to 107 wins over that period. He spent time with the Green Wave outfielders, hitters and pitchers while coaching first base and serving as the camp director for the Rick Jones Tulane Baseball Camp.

Looks like the HC's at USC, Stanford, Vanderbilt, Miami, Notre Dame, TCU, Rice, Duke and several other "private" institutions of higher learning have the same fears of getting smart players that can actually play the game

Riser did not coach at Tulane. He played and coached under Artigues. Mohl was a volunteer assistant at Tulane. He made his money off of the camps. He drew his first coaching paycheck under Kingston as his pitching coach . Those are the facts. By y'alls logic Sean Payton isn't a Parcells protégé he's a protégé of whoever he first coached under. Try and sell that. You've still got Gaut and Sutter.

Wrong again.
He coached at Tulane during the 2007 season here’s his resume.

Many college baseball coaches began as volunteer assistants. So what. At one time Jones and many of his coaches were unpaid volunteers. That’s a ridiculous way of deflecting that you were wrong once again. His first job was as a coach at Tulane under Rick Jones.

Well, that's an unfair comparison because those programs have:
1. P5 money and/or
2. Endowment large enough to meet 100% of need.

Because Tulane has neither, it's unfair to compare its' athletics to the athletics of those schools - USC (both), Stanford (both), Vanderbilt (both), Miami (P5 money only), Notre Dame (both), TCU (P5 money only), Rice (endowment only), and Duke (both).

Technically, Dallas Baptist is an outlier, but, then again, it doesn't have to use the little money that it does have to subsidize D1 football.

So who would qualify as a Jones protégé? (question is not meant to be argumentative.)

There's Jake (passed on HC previously, TU decision) and Chad (I don't believe he is in coaching currently). Both were given a limited opportunity prior to DP. I can not see either coming back. Jake was given an assistant opportunity last year and went to MSU. How long was Jake even coaching with Jones (yes, I am lazy, I have not intention of researching.)? Chad had a lengthy period but was passed over for Jake by Jones in 2015.

There's Schloss, but I think he's happy were he is.

Anyone that played for or coached under Jones could be considered a protégé. There’s no real criteria. It’s subjective. Everyone understands that except for one person.

I honestly believed that at this point TD would have this athletic department in much better shape. It's demoralizing. No idea how you older fans have hung on for this long. I am close to hanging up my TU cleats.

why is it unfair...if U wish to swim in the same Pond, then ya better be ready to spend the same bucks...I am tired of this $$$$ BS...it may be time to shut down baseball, if Tulane does not wish to keep up with the Jones'....I bet Coastal Carolina and Dallas Baptist have huge endowments

I sometimes wonder if Tulane keeps hurdles in place just so there can always be a built-in excuse of why we can't win.
