I suppose we'll get week 2 next week.

(CBS Sports is not rated by Neilsen)

August 29:

ESPN

BYU/UConn 0.7 rating 1.08 million viewers -- won the night on ESPN

ESPNU UTSA/ Houston 0.1 rating 221,000 viewers compared to 168k for Wake/ULM the night before

August 30

ESPN2

Penn State/UCF 0.9 rating 1.3 million viewers (8:30 AM kickoff)

ESPN NEWS
NCCENTRAL/ ECU 0.0 rating 81,000 viewers
August 31

Fox Sports1 SMU/Baylor 0.4 rating 762,000 viewers

Widely distributed networks average (FS1, ESPN, ESPN2): 1,044,000

By comparison three Mountain West games averaged 1,575,000 but did have better time slots. For example, Penn State/UCF would have drawn much better with a later or prime time slot like Boise State/Ole Miss which drew 2.42 million Thursday night. The other two MWC games did about the same as AAC games with UNLV playing Arizona and Fresno State playing USC.

Week 2 ratings:

ABC:

Oklahoma/Tulsa 2.1 rating 3.19 million viewers (part of split coverage with Akron/Penn State)

ESPNU:

ECU/S. Carolina 0.5 rating 959,000 viewers

ESPNNEWS: Ga Tech/Tulane 0.2 rating 307,000 viewers

Can't really make much of the Oklahoma/Tulsa game, because it wasn't 100% national. East Carolina/S. Carolina rating is outstanding for ESPNU. GA Tech/Tulane is pretty good for ESPNNEWS.

Week 3:

ESPN Houston/BYU 0.6 rating 1.05 million viewers
ESPNU Toledo/Cincy 0.3 rating 394,000 viewers
ESPN ECU/Va Tech 1.7 rating 2.56 million viewers (highest rated ESPN game)

Season averages:

Average on widely distributed networks through three weeks: 1,657,000

Average on small networks: 435,250

Average on all networks: 1.168,300

Average excluding Tulsa/Oklahoma which was part of regional coverage with Penn State: 943,667

Throwing out high and low: 1,051,500

Throw out Tulsa/Oklahoma (for reason stated above), ECU/VaTech (as the new high skewing the average), and NC Central/ECU (as an extreme low skewing the average down): 836,000

No matter how you stack it, the ratings have been solid for this league, despite its modest success on the field.
