Try telling LSU baseball players they can't win a national championship because their baseball program isn't part of the NCAA? Or Duke's basketball team? March Madness is an NCAA event, isn't it? Do the P5s really want to have to run their own championships in every sport? And what about Title IX issues? Would those still apply? P5 might be opening a Pandora's box they don't want to open, just for football.
Right now the Pees have the best of all worlds, all the money from football while enjoying as well March Madness for basketball where the little guys are their true equals and indispensable for the tournament.
Exactly. So if they threaten to leave, you threaten to not allow their other programs to compete for NCAA sanctioned titles. There are angles that can be used to put pressure on them. Also, we're looking at Alabama-Clemson IV tonight. How many more of these before schools like Ole Miss, Miss St, Missouri, Duke, Syracuse, etc, realize they're actually participating in a mini-version of the P5/G5 issue? The more Ala and Clemson continue to reach the CFP CG, the more all the best talent in the country will want to play for them. And unlike basketball, where one great player can carry a team, football's not like that. When the non-elite P5s start realizing they basically have no more chance for a NC than we do, will they step up and do something?
Very true. There is already a Top 10 that typically duke it out for playoff spots, and have separated themselves from the other P5’s. Clemson, Bama, Georgia, OU, Ohio State, Michigan, Penn St. Notre Dame, Florida and Texas. A handful of bridesmaids could claw there way into the Top 10–USC, LSU, Oregon, Fla State, Auburn, Wisconsin, Texas A&M., Stanford and Miami. After that it’s a big gap down to the next group of P5s, who really don’t have any more chance at a NC than any of the G5’s have.. Something that Holgerson probably recognized, in his decision to go to UH. Eventually the P5 will “eat their own” and the revenue sharing will migrate to the top schools.

Robert, I agree with most of your thoughts on this subject except the comments about Bama and Clemson.

Did those two do anything illegal or unethical to be where they are tonight? Does anyone believe either of those two teams don't deserve to be there?

Bama, in particular, has just been in a class all of its own these past few years. That's all on coaching and recruiting in my estimation.
I wasn't implying they did anything wrong. What I'm saying is, just like the P5/G5 narrative, the more Clemson and Alabama continue to make the playoffs every year, the more they're going to get the cream of the crop as far as players. Eventually, the talent gap between them and the rest of SEC/ACC will get to the point where they won't be on a level playing field anymore. For example, imagine reaching the point where 28 of the 30 5 star recruits all choose Alabama or Clemson for two or three years in a row. In three years, they each would have over 40 5 star players, and all of FBS would have six scattered among 130 teams. Eventually, 90% of P5 would be in the same boat we're in now. Except that they don't see it coming.
