It wasn't the first time that a coach in New Orleans underestimated the Breaux Bridge native who led the Carolina Panthers to Super Bowl XXXVIII in 2004. Former Tulane coach Buddy Teevens offered Delhomme a free ride with the Green Wave in 1993 only to rescind it. That sent Delhomme to the University of Southwestern Louisiana (now the University of Louisiana-Lafayette) where he is still the all-time leading passer.
Tulane went 9-36 from 1993-96 while Delhomme was leading the Ragin' Cajuns to a 25-19 record and a pair of Big West championships. Teevens was fired after the '96 season.
There's little question that Delhomme would have made Tulane better. The Wave struggled mightily at the quarterback position during Teevens' tenure.
ULL's Jake Delhomme and almost Tulane

We thank Tulane and Coach Teeven's for having the foresight to recognize that the Cajuns would be better served by signing Jake Delhomme.
ajcalhoun: Nobody here gives a flying fuck about UL-L and the Sunbelt Conference.
