In a letter sent to ECU alumni, Staton acknowledged it's "been difficult" for the program, but wrote that he "was appalled" by what he's seen and heard from fans while attending games. Staton's comments are directed at those who berate players and coaches on the sideline and said fans might "behave differently if they knew these young people the way" he does.

ECU did that to itself. Scottie may ultimately be a great coach, but good programs don't fire proven coaches just because they had one bad year. ECU did that, and now it's paying the price for it.

Ironic......a University head that defends his coach and football team......as compared to Scott Cowen, a University head that secretly tried to downgrade his coach and football team...........
