Jesmyn Ward won the 2011 National Book Award for her Katrina tale, Salvage the Bones. She is an associate professor of English at Tulane and has just released a new novel, Sing Unburied Sing.

This week's edition of Time has a two page profile of Ms. Ward. Quite an honor indeed. This young woman is going places.

And now she's nominated for the prestigious 2017 National Book Award. Faculty like Ms. Ward make Tulane Tulane.

Now she has been named a McArthur fellow (a genius grant) and received a $625K grant.

Jesmyn claims a second National Book Award, this time for "Sing, Unburied, Sing". First woman ever to do so. She's being compared to Faulkner.

To put things in perspective, long after we forget how many first downs we had against Houston, we'll still be celebrating this Tulanian's work.

That's pretty high praise to be compared to Faulker. Congrats to her!
