It's only a matter of time before the Superdome starts hosting neutral site games - a Big 12/SEC match up would make the most sense, and it could be branded as a Sugar Bowl event.
Yep. I'm surprised Benson is falling asleep at the wheel on that one. It would be as big or bigger than a Sugar Bowl. Every year that goes by he and the city miss out on millions.Aberzombie1892 wrote:It's only a matter of time before the Superdome starts hosting neutral site games - a Big 12/SEC match up would make the most sense, and it could be branded as a Sugar Bowl event.
Be proactive, being reactive is for losers..

Agree. I could see ND coming here and using the Dome for a future Shamrock Series game. There are lots of possibilities.

According to Dannen Tulane would like to play some future bigger games in the Dome as well.

It's hard to fathom the amount of damage Cow/Dick inflicted upon the program. That we opened the door for us to be the 2nd fiddle in our home town is mind blowing stupid.
Tulane should move back to the Dome solely to block others from playing there. What a mess.

I think Alleva will be scheduling a LaCrosse match not a football game !!!.... Complimentary "Escorts / Dancers" for the players in the post match celebration..All proceeds to benefit the 'REDA" organization.. "Retired Exotic Dancers America".....for which Joe receives unlimited lap dancesajcalhoun wrote:"It would be great to be able to play a non-conference game in the Superdome," LSU athletic director Joe Alleva said. It was most likely a part of the Cow/Dick agenda to smooth the way for LSU to play home games here and it is extremely disappointing that President Fitts and AD Dannen do not undo the damage that Cow/Dick Stadium has done, continues to do, and, apparently will further do.jonathanjoseph wrote:It's hard to fathom the amount of damage Cow/Dick inflicted upon the program. Abandon Cow/Dick and return to MBSD, immediately, as in 2017.
President Fitts , B of A , it's put up or forever hold your peace time . Make Tulane ATHLETICS relevant and top 30 again .

Tulane playing home games in the Dome wouldn't prevent the expansion of the SEC's flagship neutral site season opener program into New Orleans.jonathanjoseph wrote:It's hard to fathom the amount of damage Cow/Dick inflicted upon the program. It possibly would. Are there any other neutral site games that are played in another college teams home stadium? If the MBSD were our official home stadium, I don't think the SEC could use it. Jerry's World, Lambeau Field, etc are not the home stadiums for a college team.Aberzombie1892 wrote:Tulane playing home games in the Dome wouldn't prevent the expansion of the SEC's flagship neutral site season opener program into New Orleans.jonathanjoseph wrote:It's hard to fathom the amount of damage Cow/Dick inflicted upon the program. The Alamodome immediately comes to mind. The reason that a lot of teams don't play homes games at these neutral site venues is that (1) these venues are generally only located in major metropolitan areas, (2) many of these venues are NFL stadiums that have all of the negatives of playing in an NFL stadium (concession/rental/security/alcohol/employee/etc. requirements, huge capacities, etc.) and (3) most college football teams have their own home stadiums. However, if it's necessary, it can happen like it does with the Alamodome.RobertM320 wrote:It possibly would. Yes, they owe us a game. But we don't want to be visitors to LSU in the Dome. It's not a big deal that LSU wants to play a game there. More than likely it would be a big name game (think ND, USC, or something similar). We have no say, and it really doesn't affect us much.ajcalhoun wrote:"It would be great to be able to play a non-conference game in the Superdome," LSU athletic director Joe Alleva said. Don't they owe us a game?
The fact that they'd like to host a game in the Dome to open the season, particularly if it's a non SEC game, would help us with Big 12 and ACC interest. Imagine either conference being able to kick off their seasons on ESPN in the Dome.

I agree and with the current lsu AD they will buy themselves out of the game...so take the money and bring in Ole Miss or "BamaDfromCT wrote:Yes, they owe us a game. As to your #2 those are all positives. There are other rental agreements than just taking the low rent one.Aberzombie1892 wrote:The Alamodome immediately comes to mind. Maybe something like the Illinois - Northwestern rivalry in Chicago can be recreated in NOLA. Illinois took offense to Northwestern branding itself as "Chicago's Big 10 Team" and has been trying to make inroads into Chicago.
http://news.medill.northwestern.edu/chi ... ier-field/
Will probably be more one-sided to start with .. but if we get to the Big XII, we will have our chances to pull off a few. Can be even better in NOLA since it will involve two different conferences (SEC and hopefully Big XII) and can be a season opener. Of course, Les Miles will do all he can to make it seem like his program is the only worthwhile one in LA. A monopoly is always better than a rivalry.

Funny thing is, LSU can schedule a mediocre P5 opponent like Washington or Wisconsin, play in the Dome and consider it a neutral site game. Then they'll schedule three rent-a-wins to play in Baton Rogue. That's the SEC scheduling formula...One neutral site made for ESPN game and three rent-a-wins in the home Stadium. Mighty Alabama is playing Chattanooga second to last game this season.

What makes you think LSU will stop there ? They will expand their N.O. schedule and hope that by so doing they are nailing the Tulane coffin shut. They must be shut out of N.O. and we must return promptly to the MBSD if we are to survive in the FBS. Chances are excellent that if we are invited into the BIGXII we will be REQUIRED to play all conference games in the MBSD.Aberzombie1892 wrote:Tulane playing home games in the Dome wouldn't prevent the expansion of the SEC's flagship neutral site season opener program into New Orleans.jonathanjoseph wrote:It's hard to fathom the amount of damage Cow/Dick inflicted upon the program. What? LSU isn't going to give up playing its yearly schedule (3 OOC home games + 4 conference games) at its own 100,000+ capacity stadium to play more often at a 70,000 capacity stadium that it doesn't own an hour away from campus for a wide range of reasons beyond just capacity and distance. All it looks like LSU doing is setting up the Superdome to become a neutral site game location for the SEC, and, given that the Superdome is in New Orleans and given that the Superdome already hosts a SEC/Big 12 bowl, we all knew that the Superdome was going to become a neutral site game location eventually.nawlinspete wrote:What makes you think LSU will stop there ? LSU "may" play a game in the dome every two years or so....the dome sits about 30,000 less than Tiger Stadium and they get all revenue from concessions in BR...playing in NOLA actually makes zero sense for LSU....Dome Mgmt needs to approach this like the Jerry World...Bama vs USC...an example would be Ole Miss vs Arizona or Florida State vs Stanford..something where the hotel rooms get taken over for the week end by fans of both teams ...if Jerry World was smart they would have the LSU vs Arkansas game played their each year, actually if the stadium were larger Shreveport would be a perfect hostnawlinspete wrote:What makes you think LSU will stop there ? They can get all the concession money in the Dome too. The real money is in the TV money they get for the game.

Concessions from 100,000 folks with a gross profit margin of what 80%? Parking?? Plus seat licenses, plus all sorts of other add-ons for home games in Tiger stadium. LSU may get a slight preference on TV share (say 2/16 while conference office is 1/16 and remainder goes pro rata to all other members. I don't know SEC distribution rules but that is a typical one for a conference.)winwave wrote:They can get all the concession money in the Dome too. In other words, if LSU moved a home game, it loses lots and lots of money. If it moved a road game to the Dome, it could be relatively much better off based on appearance fee and other details.
Wake Forest has occasionally played its home game against FSU in Orlando for example. It made more money and obviously FSU was overjoyed about it as well. But it was a road game for FSU. Dome would have to find an LSU opponent with a home game willing to do that. Maybe Vanderbilt but I don't see any others and that's a broad stretch to consider that one.
These are the same reasons Alabama no longer plays in Birmingham and Packers no longer play in Milwaukee.
Hell, if I remember correctly 'bama use to play in Mobile.....just looked it up Bama .. has a Mobile record of 13-7-2 with the last game being played in 1969lurker123 wrote:Concessions from 100,000 folks with a gross profit margin of what 80%?
