Re: USC and direction school UCLA

A perfect example of D’s point is the reporting that the Big 10 wanted Oregon over UCLA, but FOX wanted to lock down the LA market so they pushed out Oregon and replaced them with UCLA. Ever since media got involved, media value is worth far more than any on the field accomplishments.

Re: SMU to the PAC-12 discussions

No legitimate university is going to publicly and loudly announce that they are lowering their academic standards for athletics. Its not something to actually be proud of. You quietly do it, which has been noted was already done. Any negotiations with another conference would be made well aware of ...

Re: SMU to the PAC-12 discussions

You can’t really “control” what you do on the field - you can prepare and put your team in the best position for it to succeed, but that won’t even guarantee a division title.

Re: SMU to the PAC-12 discussions

We will know a lot more for where things are heading with the PAC 12 after its meeting this Tuesday, March 21st. We just need to keep winning, 2023 should be another big year for the Wave. https://www.750thegame.com/canzano-pac-12-dominos-will-start-falling-on-tuesday/ I thought the same thing abou...

Re: Tulane being considered for the Big 12?

The Big 12 is 100% not adding Tulane in this round of realignment due to the Big 12’s contract. You have no idea the pull the university has with big corporate interests that can help out, also the three schools that left the AAC will have a voice. Yahoo, Tampa Bay, Atlanta, and Saint connections c...

Re: Tulane being considered for the Big 12?

.The Cotton Bowl is sort of a proof-of-concept of this. We looked like a bonafide football school. This is a significant statement. The challenge is that any evaluation of Tulane as a Power conference expansion candidate has to presume that Tulane would generally be a perpetual 6-6 team at the powe...

Re: Tulane being considered for the Big 12?

Also, Utah can not be considered a legacy P5. They moved up the same year TCU did. Its only been ten years for both. That's the other part. There are unique scenarios that can occur. For example, TCU was elevated because Texas A&M left the Big 12, TCU was the best G5 Texas program, TCU was in t...

Re: Tulane being considered for the Big 12?

I understand that. But we also talk about how losing teams don't draw eyeballs. And when anyone brings up Tulane as far as going P5, EVERYONE points to our lack of success. So let's phrase it a another way. What makes us different than Ole Miss or Baylor? I wasn't belittling on field success. I was...

Re: Tulane being considered for the Big 12?

Some interesting facts about the "Four Corners Schools" Arizona State - The last time ASU won a conference title was 1996. Also the last time they played in a major bowl Arizona - AU has never won the PAC-12, and they're only trip to a major bowl was in 2013, when the went to the Fiesta a...

Re: AAC vs BIG XII

At a fundamental level, USC, UCLA, Oregon, and Washington are each undoubtedly more valuable to media than any new look Big 12 program (Big 12 2025-on). Do you dispute that? If not, then I don’t understand the argument here - the Big 12 jumped the line because the PAC 12 lost teams. If the PAC 12 h...

Re: AAC vs BIG XII

The PAC 12 would have made a lot more than $32M from media if they kept UCLA/USC. It probably would have been in the $40-45M range. I don't know about that. From all accounts, the PAC 12 was counting on holding ESPN hostage vis a vis the new players in the market and nobody has stepped up. The last...

Re: AAC vs BIG XII

One consideration. How ever many new teams are invited to the PAC, they almost surely won't get a full revenue share for some time. That will give Kliavkoff leverage to up the revenue take for the PAC12 legacy schools--thereby helping him get those schools at least equal to the Big 12 revenue take ...

Re: Tulane being considered for the Big 12?

The Big 12 is unlikely to expand outside of current P5 schools, as its expansion clause that provides for a pro-rata increase in payout is strictly limited to current P5s. To that end, Tulane/SMU and the like are likely completely off the table.

What about if the Pac12 implodes which some feel is likely, does SMU stays in the AAC or move into a merged Pac? / Mountain West? Re: Tulane being considered for the Big 12?

Rice is not being considered. That's been confirmed already. SDSU and SMU are the first two choices. If they want more, Tulane is probably next and Gonzaga for basketball only though the B12 has a better chance if they want. CSU has the academics and facilities though they've stunk the last few yea...

Re: Tulane being considered for the Big 12?

Why Rice? Do they really bring the Houston market? Getting conference teams in the Houston market in terms of exposure and recruiting. The true value of Rice is (1) getting bigger brands exposure in the Houston market (Washington, Oregon, Stanford, CAL, etc.) and (2) building regional relevance thr...

Re: Big 12 2023 FB Schedule

BYU is likely a more valuable football program to media than any other non-UT/OU Big 12 football program. Let’s not pretend that there is a scenario where the Big 12 expanded where it couldn’t pull from other P5s and BYU was not going to be there.

Re: Interesting tidbit regarding future P5 expansion

UNC is probably the most desirable full member program in the ACC to either the SEC or B1G - so much so that it would be shocking if the ACC lost full members and UNC was not one of them. UNC combines top tier FBS academics, a 2nd tier recruiting state (tier after Texas, Florida, California, and Ge...

Zombie, I may be wrong, but I think UVa and UNC are both committed to the ACC for the long haul. If some combination of Louisville, Clemson, FSU and Miami left, and ND joined for football, it would be a very prestigious academic conference with damned good sports. At that point, they'd be looking t...

Re: Interesting tidbit regarding future P5 expansion

I agree with the premise of the Article in that Warren wanted the B1G to add Washington, Oregon, Cal and Stanford, and his moving on likely ends that conversation. Subsequently, I told Baylor fans in Texas that that was a worst case scenario as leaving those teams behind made the PAC12 stable so tha...
