Re: USNWR

How the hell do you know this? He gutted the engineering department, folded Newcomb and canned a ton of Profs post Katrina, so the argument can be made that many in academia in fact do not like him. Also he used smoke and mirrors to artificially deflate our accpetnace rate, which may not have gone ...

Re: USNWR

Probably not for two reasons. (1) Peer review scores are difficult to change, and, when they do, they generally trail changes in admissions stats (ACT/GPA/SAT) and (2) a lot of "peers" that fill out these surveys at different universities view Cowen highly. The latter is primarily result o...

Re: Navy Score Prediction Thread

I still don't know if Kennedy/Wilson will be back. Assuming that neither will play: Navy 30 Tulane 24 Assuming that both will play: Navy 20 Tulane 17 Adding two defensive linemen costs our offense 7 points? Not directly. The Navy triple option and the Tulane option are designed to be effective by b...

Re: USNWR

So how do you explain that in 1998 when Cowen took over we were #34, and by 2002 we were #46? Katrina would have nothing to do with that. And even after 2002 he had 13 years to fix it, and yet when he left we were #54. So all of a sudden, in 24 months we make a 15 place jump and he gets the credit?...

Re: USNWR

Given the trailing nature of the US News Rankings, it's unlikely that the new president has been at Tulane long enough to make a major impact on them. Whether we like it or not, it wouldn't make sense to not attribute the majority of the increase to Cowen's regime.

Re: Underdog Dynasty: Tulane is Scary

To be fair, Vanderbilt did end both of the 2012 and 2013 seasons ranked in both the coaches and AP polls, which together is more than what Tulane has done in a very long time (even if you factor in the undefeated 1998 season in which Tulane defeated 3 teams with even or better records in the regular...

Re: Underdog Dynasty: Tulane is Scary

Guys guys - relax! We're all supporting the same team. Fritz would be an ideal candidate for a bottom feeder job at a P5 in the sense that he has a history of taking lower quality high school recruits and making them competitive against higher quality recruits - that ability is generally what ADs at...

Re: Does anyone have updates on players injured against Southern?

I hope everyone is fine, and, if not, I hope they get better soon. That being said, Badie missing time wouldn't hurt the season as much as Kennedy/Wilson missing time since Tulane has reliable depth at RB right now that it just doesn't have at DL.

Does anyone have updates on players injured against Southern?

So, it looks like 5 Tulane players were injured against Southern: Sherman Badie Sean Wilson Robert Kennedy Zachery Harris Peter Woullard Does anyone have any updates on them? I've been looking and I have yet to find anything. The article below only briefly mentions the injuries in the Lagniappe port...

Re: Underdog Dynasty: Tulane is Scary

Rick Dickson did this with CJ at the end of his first year, and it created a monster problem. I, too, am impressed with Fritz. But let's let the season play out before we start handing out new contracts. If we have a winning record by mid/late October, there would be nothing wrong with Troy Dannen ...

Re: Underdog Dynasty: Tulane is Scary

I love everything about what WF has done so far and I am a huge WF fan so far, but before we get to that stage of potential suitors and re-upping his contract, I need to see more games under his belt as TU's HC. We are 1-1 and about to open up conference play this weekend. If we continue to progres...

Re: Underdog Dynasty: Tulane is Scary

Rumors are running rapid at the Golf courses of what will happen just up I-35....The person with the most power if Grobe is gone after one year is Grant Teaff. The general feeling is that Grobe will last two years, allow the legal and any NCAA investigations to be fully complete before hiring a &qu...

Re: Underdog Dynasty: Tulane is Scary

If Tulane does not get a Pee 5 invite and has success and a Pee 5 school comes calling "K-JUCO State" is a perfect fit for Fritz That's certainly true, but, if he has a great 2016 at Tulane, a program or two may come calling this offseason, and, given that it's unclear whether Snyder is l...

Re: Up Next: Navy

A team that has 8 votes in teh Coach's poll is only a 7 point favorite over Tulane ?....shows one of two things, someone in the Athletic Dept, other than the Head Coach is voting in the poll, and yes folks it happens, I did it several times during the Mack and Greg era at Tulane or someone in Vegas...

Re: Up Next: Navy

As the data stands now, that's certainly true, but that could easily change since we are so early in the season. For example, UConn faces 3 P5s OOC, and, if it beats 2/3 of them, it would skyrocket in Massey. The same with Navy if it beats Notre Dame, and, if Navy actually does defeat Notre Dame, it...

Re: Up Next: Navy

Robert, I don't believe that Tulane is "bad" - it just seems like Tulane needs to beat an FBS team before we start clearing out our December schedules so that we can travel to a bowl game. In regard to Massey, I'm a major supporter of using data to support conclusions, but it may be too so...

Re: Underdog Dynasty: Tulane is Scary

Very nice write-up, even if a bit premature. The program to watch for is K State. You mean in regard to hiring Fritz? I can see several teams being in the mix if it comes to it (WVU/Kansas State/Texas Tech/Vanderbilt/Colorado/GaTech/Boston College/Purdue and even possibly Kentucky/Auburn/LSU). Hope...

Re: Up Next: Navy

If Tulane does start 4-2 or even with luck 5-1, it will have a winning season record. I know I'm in the minority but I'm more optimistic about November than most here but also more pessimistic about the first six games. I think it's just inevitable that Tulane drops one or two more very close "...

Re: Big XII Expansion

A couple of more weeks like this and the Big XII's going to have a tough time using the argument that some of the candidates for expansion "don't add value". Last week Iowa State lost to UNI and Oklahoma lost to Houston; today Oklahoma State struggling with Central Michigan 20-17 in the 4...

Re: Southern GameDay Thread

Tulane has less than 200 yards of total offense and only a handful of yards passing yet it has 49 points - Southern is really, really, bad and this game doesn't tell us much about Tulane's team. In bad news, Sean Wilson is in a boot. Please. We are moving the ball well. We don't have many yards bec...

Re: Southern game

It looks like campus insiders has predicted the outcome of this game - Tulane 20/Southern 17. I'm honestly shocked that they believe that the final score would be so close.
