Re: CUSA lays claim as top G5 conference

I cringe for poor Rice whenever reminded they are still in CUSA. Universities of the caliber of a Tulane or Rice should not be in a conference of academic pigmies like CUSA. Very sad that Rice is for present one of the "left behind." ;) :P There aren't that many sub 20,000 enrollmen...

Re: Let's Talk Football on the Westbank

Reporting that you have raised 1% of the funds is comical. So where is the tennis facility going? I would also like to know if there is any plan to utilize the land near Ochsner? I still feel like we are in a much better position as an athletic department than we were 3-4 years ago. The one concern...

Re: CUSA lays claim as top G5 conference

I was one of the few around here who wanted to stay in C-USA at least until we proved we could dominate in it. I did not necessarily want to stay in CUSA but if we had, I certainly was not going to be terribly upset. The way we are playing, I think we would still be near the bottom though I think t...

Re: Ole Miss Hugh Freeze Resigns..

Eagle, I wonder how much his recruiting was helped by his calls to the young ladies? Not trying to start an argument about Freeze. I agree that he is a good (but not great) coach. Perhaps I am naive, but I will never understand how a recruit would choose a school on the basis that the school bought...

Re: The 11.7 Baseball Scholarship Myth

That land aint gonna be cheap. Doesn't the Catholic Church own the land that Loyola is on? If so, it seems unlikely that they would sell it for a discount, and, given the prime location of the land, it will be worth a lot of money. If even it was up for sale, Tulane probably couldn't afford it with...

Re: The 11.7 Baseball Scholarship Myth

Loyola NOLA is in real rough shape. You can only trim so much fat, it feels like they are headed for a slow death. Could be huge for Tulane. Ideally, yes, but, even if Loyola Nola ceased to exist, it wouldn't have that much of an effect on Tulane since: (1) Loyola has lower quality student body tha...

Here's a story discussing the struggles of private schools. it's not a perfect comp to TU, but interesting IMO. https://www.bostonglobe.com/metro/2017/07/17/small-private-schools-are-financially-struggling-but-merrimack-has-found-its-footing/diMZ07Cb640MITMlEeMzuK/story.html?s_campaign=bdc:globewell...

Re: Basketball Travels

So let me get this straight, in order to get the ten extra practices you have to schedule a foreign trip? That is a very strange policy. To me it reeks of P5 meddling as most of the non-P5's cannot afford a trip thus giving the P5's an advantage.

Re: ( just for Show Me ) CFN's 2017 AAC Crystal Ball

I'd go with this: Certain loss: Oklahoma High chance of loss: USF MEMPHIS TULSA 50/50 HOUSTON NAVY SMU CINCINNATI ECU FIU ARMY FCS: GRAMBLING I think this is close to perfect, imo. i may pull FIU and ECU into a 60/40 category. Tulsa is going to be really strong at OL, not sure our DL can compensate...

Re: The 11.7 Baseball Scholarship Myth

Well, it's complicated. Looking at a snapshot of the endowments of the Tulane's historical competition in 1998 - 1998 was selected because that was when Cowen became Tulane's president - Emory had the 5th largest endowment overall at $5.1B, WashU was number 10 with $3.4B, Rice was 13 with $2.7B, Va...

Re: The economics of baseball

What's really changed is that many more programs with much greater resources are trying now. For a long time we were one of the few really putting resources and effort into winning in baseball. Thus we had a legitimate chance to win a NC. Unfortunately I believe that window is now closed. So SELA h...

Riser did go for the La. Tech job last year. That is from a very inside source at SELA. Just to be clear from the beginning all I wanted was a national search. Many felt the same way. All the names that surfaced including Walter were qualified. In time we'll see how it plays out. I hope they all su...

Re: College baseball

Some facts about Riser. He coaches at a double directional school. He does more with less than probably any other coach in the country. Prior to him becoming head coach SELA hadn't made a regional in 20 years. Two years before he became HC he was Jay Artigues recruiting coordinator. So these are al...
