Re: Where it all started that brings us to today...
If the G5 and FCS ever got the balls to sue the NCAA/SEC/Big10 for collusion and anti-trust, maybe we’d have a decent, functional system. 3 tiers: Take FBS, FCS, D2. Distribute back into regional leagues at each level. Legitimate playoffs at the end of the year with league champs. Relegation/promot...

Re: Leaving the SEC
The two are not mutually exclusive. We have been a strong research university for decades, including when 1/3 of our student body was from Louisiana. There is no reason to think a return to 1/3 would impair Tulane's ability to continue to be a research university. In large part because the research...

The challenge is that it would not be possible for both of the following to be true: (1) Tulane being mentioned in the same breath as other national powerhouse private research institutions and (2) Tulane emphasizing recruiting in state students. Full stop. While (2) would help with athletics, it w...

Re: Leaving the SEC
Before we go too far down this rabbit hole, please keep in mind that Tulane wouldn’t be “Tulane” if it focused on an in-state student body (i.e. 1/3 or more of class form Louisiana). Louisiana students generally don’t (1) have enough high end test scores for that and (2) enough money and interest in...

Re: Tulane among a number of schools filing to join the imploding PAC-12
Apparently the dissolution of the AAC is a “done deal” allowing all 11 teams to join the newly formed Pacific American Conference without exit penalties The four new additions to the AAC will only be probationary members and each only receive half media shares. San Diego State is being courted for ...

Re: Troy Dannen to discuss TU Football, Conf. Possibilities, Facilities 8/15 @ 4:20PM
One thing he said was that after Colorado left for Big 12, he felt that 10 dominoes needed to fall before it affected Tulane and we are currently on domino 8. So, what do you all think the 10 dominoes are? 1. Arizona; 2. Ariz St.; 3. Utah; 4. Washington; 5. Oregon; 6. ACC not taking Stanford and Ca...

Re: Ole Miss AD frustrated with Tulane
I agree that we need to start regularly selling out the stadium before we start rolling over for Ole Miss. In terms of the stadium itself, we will probably never need more than 40k actual seats.

Re: ACC looks at Stanford/Cal
That's no long list and Tulane is well aware of them. So like I said they for the most part have no interest in donating and aren't answering the call. They are also well aware of what Tulane did last season and it didn't inspire them to give. It’s 5 off the top of my head. I’m sure there are many ...

Re: SEC wants change in CFP wants more at large spots
You said “ P5 conference winners do not get automatic bids in the expanded format, and I added some emphasis in the quote above for clarity on this” Most assume it will be 5 P5’s and one G5 that will get the automatic bids. Unfortunately Rankings will influence that. Assuming is fine, but the point...

Re: SEC wants change in CFP wants more at large spots
Definitely automatic bids: highest P5’s get 5 bids and the highest G5 get’s a bid. The rest at large. https://www.si.com/college/2022/12/01/how-12-college-football-playoff-bids-will-be-awarded-2024 The link you provided literally states the opposite. You said “ P5 conference winners do not get auto...

Re: SEC wants change in CFP wants more at large spots
P5 Conference winners get bids with the 12 team format. G5 gets an automatic. (I’m calling it automatic because the champs will get them) P5 conference winners do not get automatic bids in the expanded format, and I added some emphasis in the quote above for clarity on this. That's just my point - ...

Re: SEC wants change in CFP wants more at large spots
Looks like with the collapse of the Pac 12 their automatic will go away and more at large spots will be created. https://theathletic.com/4760222/2023/08/08/sankey-college-football-playoff-realignment/?source=user_shared_article They didn't have an "automatic" bid in the expanded CFP. No c...

Re: Tulane among a number of schools filing to join the imploding PAC-12
After that deal Air Force wants to join Navy and Boise St. giving us a strong Western Division. So, ESPN, which didn't want to spend for the PAC is going to blow up their affordable contract with not one, but TWO conferences that make a small fraction of what you're talking about to give 12 of 16 s...

Re: ACC looks at Stanford/Cal
If we're making the type of commitment to Athletics we'd all like us to make, $7 million additional deficit would not be an issue whatsoever. Institutional commitment is lacking, as expressed in your posts about us not being able to swallow a $7 million investment in the future of Athletics. To be ...

Re: ACC looks at Stanford/Cal
We wouldn't invest $7 million/year for a few years to get into the ACC? If that's the case, we don't deserve an invite from anyone. Our history is knuckleheaded enough. We cannot compete with foregoing $7 million for the first few years? Ridiculous. We need private donors to pay it the way SMU woul...

Re: ACC looks at Stanford/Cal
So what is the school waiting for? Funds/donations? The winning has started to arrive. Tulane should be an easy candidate for realignment so what's stopping it? Unfortunately the donors just aren't there. Coming off the season we had you would think donations would have poured in. But it looks like...

Re: Tulane among a number of schools filing to join the imploding PAC-12
The challenge is that the linear networks don’t have any money, and that’s the major reason why the PAC 12 collapsed. To that end, it’s unlikely that those same networks would all of a sudden pay a team 2-3x what it’s paying for such team today even if that team changed conferences - look at SMU wil...

SMU is willing to forego media distributions in exchange for an invite. Re: ACC looks at Stanford/Cal
The PAC 12 still exists and given its special treatment in the rules (not autobids), it’s unlikely that they will -leave- the PAC12 unless it’s for the ACC. They could merge with another league, but they aren’t leaving for the AAC or MWC. Such BS how did the others schools leave without a merger. L...

Re: Rutgers move to Big 10 has been a financial disaster
I remember reading a similar article about a year ago. The tone of that story was that the Big10 kind of used Rutgers to get a New Jersey market. They gave Rutgers a greatly reduced cut of the revenue for several years, but required them to be competitive with the other schools' facilities. Maybe R...
