Re: Does size really matter? (stadium)
Tulane did back down significantly on the size and scale of the Uptown Square project from what it had first announced that it was going to do. And that was back when "pro-development" councilman Jay Batt was on the city council and since then the voters have rejected his attempts to be re...

New Orleans sports scene
The Zephyrs enjoyed a large, near-capacity crowd for their home opener last night, the Hornets are in the playoffs, still have Chris Paul and are plowing ahead with their p.r. campaign (now they probably will have a tough time in the playoffs and may well lose Chris Paul, which would be bad news but...

Re: YOGWF BCS
Yes, in the same vein as with talk about the supposed need for an on-campus stadium, I gag when I hear about how terrible the BCS is and how that's been such a reason for Tulane's problems. Reality: in 1998 Tulane DID play a really lightweight schedule. Going into the Liberty Bowl Tulane was not in ...

Re: Does size really matter? (stadium)
Looking at the aerial view from above, I see no way that anything above a 32,000 person stadium can fit there, maybe 35K. Modular verticle construction. "Modular vertile constrution" What exactly is that? A football stadium is a football stadium is a football stadium and a larger one will...

Re: Does size really matter? (stadium)
The University of Akron is municipally-owned. Tulane is private. A football stadium on Tulane's campus would not be a genuine "for public-use" facility. It would clearly be for Tulane's private use. After all, isn't that what it's supposed to be all about, as in having a building that Tula...

Re: Does size really matter? (stadium)
It's coming! Get used to it. It, IMHO, is what TULANE needs. It's a luxury compared to other needs but the main need is to win, win consistently, win against well-regarded competition and really prove to everyone that Tulane wants to be a consistent winner. If that's not accomplished noth...

Re: Does size really matter? (stadium)
Why do they need to study something that's been studied for 30 years already? If it were just about raising money they'd start trying to raise the money now. Whether it takes 1 or 3 years to complete the stadium (I'd say 3 since it's Tulane) how many years is it going to be after a 1 year study on ...

Re: OCS vs. IPF : The Facility Debate
There hasn't been on concrete fact not to build a on campus stadium. The only facts are what was 30 yrs ago. Well if you live in the past you die in the past. Quit thinking past and look into the future my friends. How can you get a campus turned on about a game when they have to travel downtown to...

Re: Nothing has changed
As I said in another thread nothing has changed since 2003. Tulane University President Scott Cowen, who chairs the committee, agreed that the cars could be put to use, though he cautioned that the notion has been more popular in theory than in practice. "I liken the business cars to Tulane fo...

Re: Stadium Capacity
This exercise is moot anyway. Tulane will never build this stadium. At least, it will never happen while Cowen is around. We actually need a practice facility more than a stadium at this point. They were talking about this practice facility several years ago like it was going to happen but like mos...

Re: OCS vs. IPF : The Facility Debate
Let's not rpeat history................ Tulane lost money for most of its games played at the stadium outside of the LSU game. The Sugar Bowls, Super Bowls, and the Saints paying rent kept the athletic dept in the green. Once the Dome was built Tulane was on its own, at that point it couldn't affor...

Re: OCS vs. IPF : The Facility Debate
This debate needs to end, we are getting an on campus stadium so all this negativity needs to end. It will be a lst class facility on the order of Southern Miss,SMU or better. The 25,000 seat myth needs to be put to end because from inside sources there would not invest in something so small on cam...

Re: article today about a football stadium
I stand by what I said. There is a difference between wanting Tulane to have a different place to play football and viewing some new playing venue as "the whole key to survival of the program." Maybe it would be nice one day, emphasis on "one day." And it's far from clear, still...

article today about a football stadium
http://www.nola.com/tulane/index.ssf/2011/03/for_tulane_green_wave_fans_on-.html I strongly disagree. This really should not be a topic unless the program is already winning consistently and drawing numbers of fans game after game. If the program isn't winning then a new stadium will not help. Reven...

Re: Dear stupid
It's a good question but beyond a doubt where the situation now is hugely different is that this was before all of the scandals of 1980's. There are light years and vast oceans of difference between what the coaches were allowed to do at recruiting time then and what they must adhere to now. and the...

Re: Fate of Coach Toledo
Apparently they haven't let him go -- and also Ken Trahan has already mentioned on NewOrleans.com that his sources were indicating to him at the time that Toledo would be back.
