Re: Allstate Sugar Bowl Women's Golf Classic starts this wee
Even with the disappointing last round - 4th against that field is a great finish. This morning's updated Golfstat rankings had the Wave move up to 24th. After the fall the team was 41st, moved up to 31st with its 2nd against UCF, and is now up to 24th.

Re: Early season baseball power rating
The San Francisco series is a return for us getting to play in the tourney at AT&T park last year w Cal, USF and one other team. We could not have gotten in that tourney without the help of Scott Sidwell, but I am guessing this series was part of the negotiated deal.

Re: UCF Challenge-Women's Golf
While college golf and the LPGA are filled with Asian golfers, Tulane hasn't had any. You can add Germany to the list with Latin America, Great Britain and Scandinavia. One other benefit of the majority of the foreign born athletes is they have been exposed to more at home and are mature beyond thei...

Re: UCF Challenge-Women's Golf
Yes - the Sugar Bowl event is Feb 21-23 at English Turn. Great field as usual. Awesome day today - -17 has to be an all-time best for the program. Had to laugh at yesterday's "one bad hole away from third place". That sounded as lame as the typical Tulane official swimming and track releas...

Re: SMU 8 & 1/2 pts. > Wave
Yes, the conference had something to do with recruiting, but I really think the upgrade in assistant coaches had more to do with our improved recruiting. The only African-American on Ed's early staffs was a Duke FOOTBALL player - not exactly someone to inspire a typical D-1 recruit to come. Now we h...

Re: MBB vs Jackson St 1pm tipoff ESPN3
Absolutely who the other team is matters. I am not a Tulane alum but am connected to Tulane through my wife. For men's basketball, the team is competing against the Pelicans, my alma mater's team on TV, and for that matter my son's high school for my basketball-watching time. When the game has intri...

Re: MBB vs Savannah State ESPN3 TV 7pm
We're still 2-1 in my books - a bad loss to Wake Forest but very respectable wins against Loyola-Chicago and Miss. State. The other games aren't even worth acknowledging - even as wins they are actually killing any chance at an NCAA berth. That's the problem with a poorly written contract for the he...

Add Beth to the list of contributing coaches. She had been the head coach at Virginia Tech. Amazing what can happen with a qualified, competent, hard-working and personable coaching staff.

My sources indicate between 23,000 and 24,000 actual numbered seats. Makes the 28K attendance number difficult to believe.

Re: Duke Game Week Thread
Duke did have a fair number of close losses from 2009-2011. Not many Duke fans were pinning those losses on Cutcliffe, but rather were pleased that we were narrowing the gap with our conference foes. After posting the worst conference record in all of D-1 for the 2000's decade - there was a huge tal...

Sader - there is truth to Cutcliffe's vanilla play calling - nothing he does is exotic but it is still effective because good timing and scouting and knowing his existing talent and where his talent matches up against the defense. His offenses have overachieved as a whole. Ole Miss and Duke are two ...

Re: Duke Game Week Thread
As a Duke alum who follows Duke football pretty closely, the Wave has its work cut out in a big way this week. Player for player, excluding special teams, Duke has just a slight advantage in talent, and if anything Tulane has slightly greater team speed. Home field means little as the weather should...

three putt was right - until Pinckney. Aruna is still the 2nd most highly regarded basketball player Tulane has signed in the Conroy era, and I don't even know if Conroy knows who he is.

Re: WVB LOSES both matches in opener at Texas A&M.
The absence of a setter will hurt volleyball even more than the absence of a kicker will hurt football. Mel Mandlebaum was all C-USA setter last year - I have heard that is a huge weakness now. It's like the kicker - its an unglamourous role player position, except that it is key in every play.

We still have the tougher front nine left - but clearly we are having the round of the day so far. Yes, if we can bring it home top 10 by the end of the day is a real possibility.

Re: Women's golf begins it's quest for a National Championsh
Looks like brutal conditions - the leaders right now - Florida and Northwestern, still have most of the tougher front 9 left. The morning groups (all the teams finishing from 5th to 8th in their regionals) are probably going to finish pretty tightly bunched except for Kansas who is really struggling...

Re: Lady Wave Golfers Regional East
I don't think any region is harder than another. This is a very easy golf course in Tallahassee, while Ok. State's course where they are playing the central is a beast. Based on the computer rankings, which are pretty good since every team has over 100 head-to-heads over the course of a season, the ...

Re: Lady Wave Golfers Regional East
So far, so good. Emily had a ridiculous 3-3-3-3-3 start - was 5 under after 5 holes and is still 5 under. The 12 teams that haven't started are the twelve weaker seeds out of the 24 teams. Not that they can't advance, but don't expect more than 1 or 2 teams out of the afternoon wave to be in the hun...

Re: Watch Tulane baseball commit Brandon Sequeira on TV now
Sequeira lost the other day to Shaw, who was led by Jace Nini who threw a complete game and hit a 3 run homer. Nini is a junior who is a phenomenal all-around player and cousins with Nick Boullosa. Not sure if he has the academics, but would be a great pick-up for the Wave.

Re: Women's Golf hosts a stellar field this weekend
Yes, the program has taken a slight dip, primarily due to the loss of Maribel Lopez, a 3-time all C-USA player who is now playing professionally. Neither of the freshmen have really stepped up though Belen is showing a lot of potential but is inconsistent. However, a #31 ranking is not terrible, esp...
