Re: UAB GameDay Thread

Welp. There goes NY6. Oh I I didn’t know the game was over… CBS projections has now pushed Tulane out for Fresno. It’s not solely about wins/losses at this point. https://www.cbssports.com/college-football/news/college-football-bowl-projections-oklahoma-fresno-state-jump-into-new-years-six-as-usc-w...

Re: Tulane among a number of schools filing to join the imploding PAC-12

What do you all want him to say? Getting an invite to a P4/5 isn't about wins and losses - it's about media markets and what ESPN/FOX/CBS/etc. want. If the media partners do not want to pay $31M+/year for Tulane and/or P4/5s do not deem New Orleans a media market worth having even for free (i.e. SM...

Is anyone willing to pay US News and post the details of Tulane’s ranking metrics here? It’s hard to form a strong positive/negative opinion about it without having the specific details in hand. The metrics being considered don’t seem too crazy offhand: https://www.usnews.com/best-colleges/tulane-u...

Re: USN&WR Best Universities 2024 - Tulane Plummets to no. 73

This is old news. Literally, it's been out for a number of days, and a week or two before it came out anyone who follows these things knew that the ranking methodology changed considerably from last year to this year. It's not all about "woke" crap at all. A good portion of the change foc...

Re: USN&WR Best Universities 2024 - Tulane Plummets to no. 73

I know nobody pays the full amount but most need to borrow substantially. At a bare minimum undergrad out of state students receiving aid are borrowing the max they can from the student loan programs. They will be leading their peers at less expensive schools in debt load and salaries don’t justify...

Re: week 4 AP Poll

Moving on… Tulane is now ranked in the 70s for both undergrad and law, 80s for graduate business, and unranked (by choice) for medicine. Any thoughts? My thoughts are that schools like Tulane and WashU have long catered to the children of high earners/rich people by offering “merit” scholarships to ...

Whenever people bring up Tulane to the P4, tell them that Tulane vs USA in 2023 had less than 54k viewers. That should leave an impression.

Re: SMU to the ACC/PAC-12 discussions

SMU has the weight of the business industry and media market of Dallas behind it, and that’s without a doubt more valuable than anything Tulane could provide even if Tulane had an endowment and media market were 2-3x larger than it currently is.

Very disappointing to hear this. How many fans have bet on the Wave and taken the 7.5 points?
I wouldn’t have recommended betting on this game either way as the week 1 results weren’t decisive enough to determine who would likely win.

Re: SMU to the ACC/PAC-12 discussions

The challenge with all this is that SMU is more valuable to the ACC than Tulane is (i.e. Dallas, Texas), so the seemingly common assumption in this thread that if Tulane made the same offer as SMU (and has the same facilities as SMU) it would be met with the same acceptance by the ACC may not actual...

Re: Replacement for SMU?

One option that is still on the table is OSU/WSU rebuilding the PAC. They have more than enough money by having all the exit fees of the ten teams that left, plus other payouts still due the conf, as well owning the PAC Network. If they choose, they have enough to poach 4-6 MWC and 4-6 AAC and pay ...

Re: Tulane among a number of schools filing to join the imploding PAC-12

Mr. Slatten, thank you for sharing. Did we ever talk to the ACC? Did we even try to put a package together? And why won’t Tulane finance some of this? As you know, the league we are playing in currently is terrible. It sounds like we are at a crossroads. And the path appears to be playing at a leve...

If the G5 and FCS ever got the balls to sue the NCAA/SEC/Big10 for collusion and anti-trust, maybe we’d have a decent, functional system. 3 tiers: Take FBS, FCS, D2. Distribute back into regional leagues at each level. Legitimate playoffs at the end of the year with league champs. Relegation/promot...

Re: Leaving the SEC

The two are not mutually exclusive. We have been a strong research university for decades, including when 1/3 of our student body was from Louisiana. There is no reason to think a return to 1/3 would impair Tulane's ability to continue to be a research university. In large part because the research...

Re: Leaving the SEC

Before we go too far down this rabbit hole, please keep in mind that Tulane wouldn’t be “Tulane” if it focused on an in-state student body (i.e. 1/3 or more of class form Louisiana). Louisiana students generally don’t (1) have enough high end test scores for that and (2) enough money and interest in...
