Re: LSU loses to Troy

When you've got $100M a year to work with like most of these SEC athletic depts, you can get the players that will put you in the hunt for national championships overnight. Especially if you cut corners to do it. Oops. That's exactly what Ole Miss did. Came out of nowhere and were in the Top Ten. N...

Re: LSU loses to Troy

We'll have to agree to disagree. They lost to a bad Tennessee team and beat a NC team that has lost 13 starters for the season to injury after already losing a lot of talent from last season. Sorry but people will look at who they played and beat to get to 3-1. Just being a 3-1 P5 doesn't make them...

Re: LSU loses to Troy

I did see it and that's not what he said at all. He was saying yes we should play LSU, Ole Miss, and Miss. St. but also play Ga.Tech, Vandy and Wake types. As I've said before I don't grade on a curve. Beating Ga. Tech would be nice but certainly not outstanding. Hell even grading on a curve it wou...

Re: LSU loses to Troy

No one has said it should be Oklahoma or Ohio state. What has been said is we will get a lot more interest out of LSU, Ole Miss, Miss. St., Auburn and the like than we will with Wake Forest and the like. Some posters did. I'm of the opinion that GaTech would have been a much better opponent than Oh...

Re: LSU loses to Troy

Where did you see anything about Clemson? I don't have a problem with a few of these games right now. 1) It can help with cash flow short term, as we need to build facilities, 2) Create some interest among casual fan that isn't about to go see UTSA, but might actually go see Clemson or Alabama, 3) ...

Re: LSU loses to Troy

Tulane should always try to schedule teams like LSU, Ole Miss, MS State, GaTech, etc. The issue is with Tulane scheduling programs like Oklahoma (2017, 2021, and 2024 Tulane schedules), Ohio State (2018), Alabama, and (apparently now) Clemson when the chances of winning are so relatively remote and ...

Re: Tulsa Game Thread

Tulsa's loss to New Mexico last week does not look as bad now since New Mexico beat Air Force this week.

It will certainly be an interesting game.

Yeah ECU seems to slowly be getting better. It's not "good" by any stretch, but it's not as bad as it was earlier this season.

They are representing Tulane and are most certainly compensated. Again, no one said they are not compensated. If you are referring to what I said, they are given a scholarship of non-transferable value and a small stipend, which was designed and intended to be a make whole for the COA, and these it...

same thing. They are on Tulane's time and representing Tulane. If scholarships and actual financial payment were the same thing, (1) NCAAF amateurism would not exist and (2) scholarships would have transferable value. They do receive stipends and if you don't consider a full scholarship a thing of ...

Re: For Discussion-What would you do....

But student athletes are not workers, and they're not wearing a shirt protesting anything either. That's the whole point. If they were workers that were paid for their services - as in, paid what the market would allow not the silly tuition and COA stuff - then it wouldn't be an issue for universiti...

Re: For Discussion-What would you do....

No ones denying them the right to free speech. There's no guarantee in the Constitution that there won't be consequences for that speech. School can choose to suspend them for improper conduct. That's a pretty catch all category. Suspending them for improper conduct? Assuming that Tulane would even...

Re: "SEC SHOULD CONSIDER SWITCHING TULANE FOR VANDERBILT" - TigerRags President

Those rivalries aren't dead and the attendance for any of them by would dwarf attendance for those you desire to see. This. Tulane's home games against those teams would be complete sell outs (i.e. not even any SRO room remaining). Wish we would schedule Vanderbilt. Would like to play them fairly r...

It reflects the values of the university. If it doesn't, tell my why we know up front you wont see it happening at Army, Navy, probably ND and BYU as well. It's not happening that much at the college level anyway, but, nevertheless, players that possibly would consider doing it at Army/Navy/Air For...

I would pay just about as much attention to their exercise of free speech as if they had stood up and put their hand over their heart or if they gave an pro-PETA interview deploring the cruelty inherent to animals in serving cooked meat at home games. I tend to support peoples right to freedom of s...

Re: "SEC SHOULD CONSIDER SWITCHING TULANE FOR VANDERBILT" - TigerRags President

Vanderbilt is exponentially more valuable than Tulane if for no other reason than its P5 infrastructure. While Tulane could, at least in theory, possibly be able to a higher ceiling than Vanderbilt, Tulane's lack of a P5 infrastructure is makes it comparatively undesirable.

Re: Winning Does

True, but it would also increase the buyout if he is fired. Given that, would it make sense to extend a coach just for winning 6 games one time (assuming that occurs this season)? What if the P5s never come and that one season was a flash in the pan?

Re: Winning Does

The only way I'd extend him is if he has a winning season (which mean better than 6-6, and not 7-6 with a minor bowl victory) AND the extension included a clause that he pay back money if he leaves before the end of the contract. But again, we're 2-2 and have yet to accomplish anything worthy of an...

Audio Recording indicates WF left GSU for Tulane due to job security

Basically, WF went 17-8 in two years at Georgia Southern (not counting the 2015 Bowl W for Georgia Southern that he did not coach), and, because that success was apparently not enough to extend him, he left for Tulane. http://www.forgotten5.com/2017/09/25/leaked-audio-from-willie-fritzs-last-player-...
