Re: Week 6 and the G5 is eliminated from the playoffs.
Better to have multiple teams in the top 20 than just one. Having one in the top four and multiple teams in the top 20 (25?) are not mutually exclusive. We can have multiple ranked teams without cannibalizing the one that had the best shot at breaking the P5 monopoly on playoff spots. Houston just ...

Re: Week 6 and the G5 is eliminated from the playoffs.
Who cares about the playoff this year. The Navy win is huge for the AAC, and big for Tulane's computer rankings this year. How is it huge for the AAC when the only shot we had at getting a conference member into the playoffs just went down the drain? It's huge for the long term health and strength ...

Re: Big XII Expansion
P4, P5 or P6--no credible system is going to exclude UT and OU. If the Big XII splits up, these two schools would essentially be doing nothing more than recreating expanded versions of the old Big 8 and SWC--and they would likely be included in a playoff system. Such a change would probably be a bi...

Re: Big XII Expansion
This is all speculation based upon winks, "on the hush hush" inside info, rumors, etc. I still doubt that there's a breakup of the Big 12 until 2024. Unless the NCAA grants "Power" status to the new conferences, and a whole lot of Universities that may or may not include Tulane ...

Re: Big XII Expansion
Ok. So content does not matter, people just turn on their TVs and watch whatever is on their most recognized channels. All these media business executives who have been bidding up sports media rights have obviously been wasting their time and all of the underlying economics of the entire TV industr...

I actually vote for the AAC games to be on Home / Garden...The Discovery...or History Channels.....soon all of the Big12 games will be on the "History" channel Insider Info....The new conference will be called "The Big Tex and a few friends" Would be very interesting. This means...

Well that increasingly looks like nothing. They need a super majority and it doesn't seem like they have anything close to that about any candidate. Chaos is good for Tulane.HoustonWave wrote:Meanwhile, back at the ranch, the Big XII is going to do something in 10 days.

Cannot refute them? Can you find any credible data source that treats cable subscribers and satellite subscribers as different consumers? At one point 99.99% of people believed the world was flat. And then there were facts that proved otherwise. My argument on this is based on fact, not opinion. Th...

Re: Big XII Expansion
Neither DirecTV nor Sling are cable providers; you're arguing a different point than the one I made. Two posters in this thread, both of which are sports fans, have stated that they cannot tell you if they have FS1 in their package. One of them worked for the cable company. Do you think we made thi...

Re: Big XII Expansion
jj, IDGAF what your numbers say, in the real world of sports fans in the year 2016 FS1 is the red-headed stepchild of sports networks. Sure, one day that may be change someday, but right now ESPN is to sports networks what Scotch is to adhesive tape. Many years ago Ford used to advertise that the L...

Re: Big XII Expansion
Good gravy. People argue just to argue. You are literally making up arguments. Where a channel is placed in the "channel guide" is different for every provider. For example, I have Sling and there are no channel numbers. In fact, FS1 (and FS2) come right next to NBC (network) and well bef...

Re: Big XII Expansion
MBA is right. It sounds like you are using an argument to make one point, but then you are using the reverse of that argument to make another point. Basically, it reads like you are saying that the AAC will get a better contract because it had high viewership for the Thursday ranked Houston versus ...

Re: Big XII Expansion
You really are too much. I am a huge sports fan and need to use the guide feature to find FS1. It was a compelling match up with Houston being the David vs the Goliath's. Add that to the fact that FS1 still has very little penetration (gigity) then you get the ratings difference. Big East Bball rat...

Re: Big XII Expansion
You're sidestepping the point. How is the Houston versus UConn game on ESPN getting more viewers than Texas Tech versus Kansas something that will get the AAC a better deal while the Cincinnati versus USF game is something to make excuses for and wouldn't affect the AAcs deal? ESPNU is in 74.9M hom...

Re: Big XII Expansion
Subscribers as of June '16: ESPN: 89M FS1: 83M ESPNU: 70M You aren't really credible when you talk about a network in 83M homes not being a "major network". FS1 has nowhere near the brand recognition that the ESPN networks do. I wouldn't be surprised if more than half that 83M didn't even...

Re: Big XII Expansion
The main two points coming from this string of observations is (1) the Big XII will morph long before 2024/2025, and (2) other than UT, OU and maybe KU, the other Big XII schools won't be getting P5 invites. Frankly, I don't see how the Big XII little seven can even get a "rescue plan" wi...

Re: Big XII Expansion
Right. But the point I'm making is that whatever deal the "watered down P5" would be entitled to would be the bargaining chip for Aresco and the AAC. Right now, ratings and on-field success are both in the favor of the AAC vs the Big 12 minus OU/UT/KU. I see the argument that you're makin...

Re: Big XII Expansion
My take was that OU, UT and probably KU would move on to other P5's, while the remaining ones would be guaranteed to remain a P5, albeit a lesser one than the other 4. With only 7 teams, they'd have to look at adding 3-5 teams. IF this happens in a few years, it would still mean a watered down B12 ...
