Re: when you think your team has no fans

And I bet was a key reason that they were so fired up while Florida, who's fans (for good reason) didn't travel well, was so flat. Heck, over the years some of Tulane's best games were on the road, or at home against teams that brought a lot of fans to the Dome. 31-28, 48-7 are two scores that come ...

Re: Realignment hell...

I would say we're (Tulane) in Purgatory right now. Not really in the Big East, but clearly on our way out of C-USA. I don't know if we're any more attractive to a better conference now than we were before the announcement that we're joining the BE, but at least it's clear we're not happy staying in ...

Re: Nick Montana

There's a reason he was not a starter at UW. Other than they had Jake Locker and Keith Price who are 2 pretty darn good quarterbacks? You know, JP Losman didn't start til his junior year... Exactly my point. Just because his last name is Montana, doesn't mean he's the second coming of Joe. Maybe he...

Re: when you think your team has no fans

At the same time we should wonder how our boys feel to see so many empty seats in the Superdome. As much as I know the OCS project has warts, if it generates enough interest to sell out the opener, and at least approach capacity as the year progresses, just think of what kind of affect that can have...

Re: when you think your team has no fans

Foster's concern at the time was over environmental racism lawsuits halting development. Nothing involved with pollution. Frivolous bs in my opinion. I've heard negatives from several people. One of my good friend's who's a civil engineer Jesuit and TU grad, his father has a masters in engineering ...

Re: Vote on the worst Tulane AD in the last 50 or so years.

fwiw Barbour was let go from UCLA so no longer is she a super powerful AD. But god love her. Wrong. http://www.calbears.com/genrel/barbour_sandy00.html Peter Dalis was UCLA athletics director for 20 years and retired in 2002. Dan Guerrero was his replacement and is current AD. Barbour has been AD f...

Re: Vote on the worst Tulane AD in the last 50 or so years.

I still think Barbour is the worst, simply because she wasted all the good will of the Bowden era by hiring Scelfo. Barbour was all set to hire Rich Rodriquez, Cowen pulled an end-around on her and hired Scelfo. I vote for Rix Yard, who allowed the worst mistake in Tulane Athletics history to be pe...

Re: Sugar Bowl tickets still not selling even at $31 a pop

These Bowl game Chairmen are the same morons that try to sell us on the idea that a D1 playoff won't work. They have too much at stake, with their $600k+ salaries (ridiculous, given that the "charity" they represent donates a small fraction of that to real charities, and distributes $millions to the...

Hopefully this means the Sugar Bowl Committee members aren't making hundreds of thousands of dollars for their efforts this year. Not for profit?? HA!

Re: Tulane Beats Alabama 53-50

This was a big win, and needs desperately to be followed by a demolition of Wofford. A big win tonight and we can (almost) forget about the loss at San Diego. A loss tonight and the win at 'Bama is meaningless. So tonight becomes a pivotal game heading into conference play. I would like to see Conro...

Re: Louisville coming to Sugar Bowl

Both endzone upper decks were empty. UF fans were dominated by Louisville. Sad that the #3 team in the country who is about 8 hrs away could not show up. Sadder still that the Sugar Bowl, (which despite qualifying as a non-profit organization is all about money) has to sell out and have the game on...

Re: Wofford game

This game must end with a W for our Green Wave. Wofford is not a very good team, but they were able to beat Xavier, which means their best win is about on par with ours (vs. Alabama). If Conroy's Crewe is really improving, we win this one by something like 60-45.

Re: Louisville coming to Sugar Bowl

I can't say that I stayed tuned too far into the 3rd Q, but that had more to do with the fact that I squeezed a move that was allocated 5 days in two days due to a lousy bank not being ready to close Friday, and only having Mon and New Years Day to move. Congrats L'ville. They really came ready to p...

Re: Nick Montana

Montana has improved since the above clips. I watched him play at Wash and Mt Sac. I have to give this kid credit for working hard to clean up a few missing tools. (Arm strength, footwork, footspeed) If his career takes off here, this could very well be a great story for this kid. Just curious: I'm...

Re: Nick Montana

As I've posted elsewhere, I hope he lives up to the hype here, but his older brother, also much ballyhoo'd may have played 10 minutes total in his years at ND. Didn't make a start. There's a reason he was not a starter at UW. Hopefully his smarts and his ability to work with this staff, starting rig...

Re: 2013 Football Schedule

While we're far from ready to play a top 30 SOS, there's two sides to this arguement: On one side you have the fact that we're stuck with a number of lousy C-USA games from a marketing perspective (and I, unlike others, think some of the new teams, even moving up from FCS, are more talented than Tul...

Re: Dickson: Devlin is now expandable

We'd need a real coach as the first step toward needing a real arena. Otherwise we're going to be hosting a whole lot of empty seats to a lot of non-competitive games at the Arena. I say we go get a known winner coach, put the money into recruiting and attracting top 20 caliber talent, and then worr...

I, too, would like to see Rice escape C-USA. I'd also like to see all of the service academies, as well.

I think there's a real risk that the Mountain West and/or the WAC could make a comeback. In which case, does Tulane stay with the East or West? Hmmm....

Re: Bad News - Big East Basketball

Conroy had better feel the heat under his bottom. This was supposed to be the year, with his recruits, which were highly touted all last year. I think he's a good man, but if he's over-matched in C-USA, he's not meant to coach in the Big East. UConn controls basketball in the Big East. I don't see t...

Re: Terrance Jones and Marc Zeno...

The crowds were MUCH, MUCH larger and REAL back then. Part of it was the teams we played (All 3 Mississippi schools, LSU, FSU, Bama, etc.) Part of it was that we were a whole heck of a lot more competitive. We really do need LSU on the schedule every year, and when we can play with em and win every ...

I know nothing about Coach Conroy's efforts raising money. All I know is from afar, and the record is not that great. I do think he's a class act, and think he deserves the benefit of the doubt, but the leash needs to be small at this point. He has his recruits in the fold now, and frankly I don't t...

Re: Tulane to the Big East

This is a very interesting and revealing moment in Tulane's history. Pivotal. We can easily fall behind very quickly, and be totally exposed, if we don't double down on the commitments that we've already made. We figure to get about $5-6million in television revenue from the Big east as an all spor...

Re: Basketball Recruiting

I'd bet the kid is going to Oak Hill Academy if he's moving to Va. They, along with Brewster Academy (Wolfeboro, NH) are the two biggest basketball high schools in the nation, both of which recruit extensively. As an aside: A friend (and fellow Tulane alum) who is originally from Wolfeboro, NH told ...
