Re: Heard this on 3 tailgaters show this morning

About thirty-seven years ago Pooka would have been par for the course academically.

Re: Coaching Changes

If Troy Dannen starts interviewing with other schools it's time to worry. Willie Fritz is a very good head football coach who can, I think, be too loyal to his staff.

Re: Coaching Changes

LSU would love it for Les to get the Tennessee job. They’d be off the hook for close to $8 milllion of his buyout. So whatever Tennessee pays Les, LSU will deduct from their payment to him. That is one hell of a good way for Les Miles to attract a quality staff. Allocate several hundred thousand to...

Re: Football Recruiting 2018

After 247 takes off Shegog, our lowest rated player is Simi Bakare. Article out today saying Mizzou is looking at him, official visit in store: http://www.mystatesman.com/sports/high-school/raiders-running-postseason-sucess-behind-simi-bakare/TQKqQEO8KM0RqOn41KiPiI/ I'll admit that I've been very c...

Re: Post season analysis

Mixed feelings here. Losing 8 heavy contributors on D is a lot for one year but it's not like we're turning over a killer D. In fact they were terrible statistically. Rankings (out of 129) Total Defense - 100, 436 ypg Yards Per Play - 123, 6.68 ypp Scoring Defense - 85, 29.2 ppg Those stats with th...

Re: Post season analysis

There's also a factor of which positions have the most positive/negative impact on the play of other positions. This season we barely scraped by defensively with a patchwork scheme. I am sure that Coach Speer & the staff will do an excellent job of preparing our 17 year old & 18-year-old rec...

Let Ruse go to Statesboro. We will pickup Debesse as OC and a co-dc in Lionel Washington. We need to hire the D-line coach from University of Rhode Island, Joe Coniglio ASAP!

Re: Post season analysis

Willie Langham, Donnie Lewis JR., Jaylon Monroe, Stephon Lofton & Thakarius Keyes will be returning at CB next year. As yet, we do not have a cornerback in 2018 recruiting class. We have a total of 8 (scholarship) free & strong safeties returning. Who from this group can credibly show and ex...

Re: Post season analysis

There's nothing wrong with matador blocking in a zone scheme, that's kinda the point. The O-line needs to have enough athleticism to stay in phase with a gapping DT & LB or else it all goes to hell (à la Tanzel & Nico)

Re: Post season analysis

Saturday's game made me want to throw up, but hey it sure was wildly entertaining, wasn't it? We're going to witness many more high scoring shootouts as our offense improves and our defense shows to be helpless at CB & DT. We need a staff member who can recruit the river parishes asap. What's L...

Re: Final call

For those who want to express their feelings, SMU basketball comes to town in six weeks. A nice round of boos when they get announced would be great and a raucous home crowd would be even better. Like the idea but kinda more the refs fault than the FB or BB SMU players. Hard for most opposing teams...

The baseball & basketball teams seem to be landing recruits from outside the Southland. Would it be helpful for our football program to target specific prospects in other regions?

Re: Willie Fritz to Kansas

Sorry, I have no interest in Frank Wilson, with the way Fletcher Mackel wanted to shove him down our throat the last time. Frank may be the only person who would come to Tulane, and the only reason he would come is to get home so to speak...my first choice is the DC @ UT...but I am sure there are m...

Re: Next year will be worse

When you ask how the pipeline dried up, I am inclined to ask how did we get that many good ones over that 5 year period. I posted many a thread for years and years that I rated each Tulane recruiting class by their recruitment of good sized and skilled Defensive linemen. Between the days of Charlie...

Re: Potential FB coaching candidates

Don't know that we are recruiting GPA's. I haven't seen those listed when we get commitments. I know academics was the issue for a long time. It's not at this point. It is the long term losing and the pathetic excuse for D-1 facilities. All you have to do is look at the Twitter profiles of the guys...

We don't exactly have a group of dynamic recruiting personalities on this staff. Recruiting JUCO's may prove to be more of an uphill fight than high school kids.

Next year will be worse

This year we are running a three-man defensive front because we can field only three d-lineman. All three will be graduating this Spring. Ade has been playing inside, his edge rushing was a thing from last year. His absence from a seven-technique DE to a five-technique DT hasn't helped with our pass...

Re: Potential FB coaching candidates

This staff won in Statesboro with Jeff Monken's talent. The entire staff seem like decent people incapable of persuading talented players at primary positions sign.
This thing can get ugly fast Troy. Got Butch Davis on speed dial?
