Re: Evanston Roll Call
I'll be at The Hangge-Uppe the night before and after the game. Saints play in Chicago next year. Would be great if it were the same weekend If, by some miracle, it's the same weekend, I'm there. I don't know the "Hangge-Uppe" but I can explore. I'd also spend some time at the Cubby Bear ...

Evanston Roll Call
If anyone is coming up to the Northwestern game and has any questions about where to stay, eat, do, get to the game etc. let me know. To say I'm very excited for the game would be an understatement.

Re: Are we alone?
The worst decision was made in 1949 when Rufus Harris de-emphasized sports at Tulane. That mentality still permeates w/many involved w/the school and its athletics program. Perhaps but Northwestern and Vanderbilt de facto had that position and are still in the P5. I get what you are saying but I st...

Windy must be bored. Hasn't been around here in months. Spends all his time on the Yoggie board getting in meaningless arguments. Maybe they banned him again and that's why he's back. Actually I pop over here just to see if there is anything interesting, don't necessarily log in. But the abject stu...

Re: Are we alone?
Miami is the closest analogy to me. Rose from peer/worse southern independent in the 80's. Difference is didn't have history we have nor academic rank, though they've raised that significantly during their football rise. Unfortunately Rice is our situational peer ... Tulane was the Miami of 1979. H...

No. . . .Every other good private school is in the P5 or is DIII.wave97 wrote:Is there an example of a G5 private university with top 50 academic ranking who has established a perennial top 50 football ranking in the post-BCS/P5 era?
Are we alone other than Rice in this effort?
Is this a good thing?

Re: Are we alone?
I'm not denying that. But the way I see worst decision is the one that puts you in a hole you can't get out of. For example, you're down by 15 points with 30 seconds left, and you score a TD. You're down nine. You're going to need a 2pt conversion at some point to tie the game. Do you go for it now...

Re: Are we alone?
Yes, but using your analogy, if we make the decision to go all in for Athletics and view them as the "front porch of the University" in the 50's and never leave the SEC in the 60's, the score is 69-0 by halftime. The second half is meaningless. At the worst, we're like Vanderbilt. At the ...

Re: Are we alone?
We will agree to disagree. You think that not hiring Infante on the spot was a worse decision than those made in the 50's and 60's to de-emphasize Athletics and leave the SEC. I think those decisions dwarf an individual coaching hire. We're both entitled to our opinions, and both of us obviously fe...

A very bad omen. Entities in trouble liquidate assets with an 80 plus years revenue guarantee. Entities thriving build and acquire additional assets. Cowen Plague continues to hurt us. Right. A terrible look. I'll provoke more comments from the childish peanut gallery, but again I wonder at what po...

Google business judgement rule then go to your doctor and get your meds switched or the does doubled, or both. Goldring's comments are utterly outrageous and mindblowing, and I would argue possibly legally actionable. Bill Goldring has a legal, fiduciary responsibility to the university stakeholders, which certainly includes "us". Does anyone have any idea what he's talking about when he explains ...

Re: the RD...PR machine
No plausible grounds? A Board member just publicly stated that we can't be successful. And yet we hold no one accountable for 15 years and then say that's the right answer because success isn't possible. If there is no secret agenda, what is the plan and why can't we compete? Out with it already. T...

Re: I don't judge on wins and losses aka the UCF game
If the roles were reversed and we scored two garbage time TDs against their 2/3 stringers to cut it to 14, would you have said that UCF just squeaked by? Or that we got blown out? If I was a UCF fan and the roles were reversed I would be pissed too. We don't have that killer instinct. We don't want...

Re: I don't judge on wins and losses aka the UCF game
Yeah, we put the back-ups in waaaaayyyy too early. Drove me nuts. Taking the starters out too early could cost you a game or two. I found the playcalling lacking as well. Not enough Zeddy or Badie. Two of the best athletes Tulane has saw minimal playing time. What was up with that? I respect Rob Ke...

I don't judge on wins and losses aka the UCF game
I judge on the product on the field and I found it . . . . . .wanting
Our coaching drives me up a friggin' wall.
UCF is fooking horrible and we effectively squeaked out a win. That's horseshit, you know it, I know it, and the American people know it.

Re: Rich Stuff
I'm not painting with a broad brush. I was on that board when it was sportsonly, the one that was run by Joe Parfait, and LSU-Tulane battleground, all of them from 97 or 98 on. They systematically banned and ran people off that didn't toe the party line, most times not for breaking any of the afore...
