Re: Tulane Major Athletic Programs ranked 10th out of 11 in

Thank you Cowen and Rick Dickson. Retire Dickson now. Our athletic program particularly men's basketball and football our money sports are a disaster. Does anyone email this message to President Fitts?  RD has a job for life after building a 23K seat football stadium and Cowen will conti...

True, JD. I'm talking in terms of bare minimums, but you're right it's tougher now.

Re: Post Article - Tulane Related

There is no minimum, but a score of at least 25-26 is generally needed for serious consideration. The average score is typically 29-30. This number can be lower for special admits (athletes, employee dependents, etc.).

Re: Baseball vs. LSU 3/24

I couldn't care less about one mid-week game. The larger issue is whether Tulane can return to elite status in this sport.

I like the Pierce hire, but will the admin do what is necessary to get Tulane back to regionals, supers, Omaha, etc?

I wish one of Tulane's promotions would be winning.

All kidding aside, I would love to see Tulane have an 80's alternate uniform and corresponding t-shirt promotion.

True, but you can be assured that the Cowens will continue 'earning' $1.2MM/year while on vacation, despite the deficit.

I wonder if RD still thinks we're headed for the middle of the treadmill in the AAC?

Re: AAC's Aresco talking present, future.

Several items: 1. The early returns on the Pierce hire look great, but we're only 20 games in. Too early to tell IMO. 2. In the current landscape of college athletics, football and men's basketball are FAR, FAR more important than baseball. Even if baseball returns to elite status (far from a sure t...

Re: AAC's Aresco talking present, future.

I hold out the smallest of hopes that Aresco convinces our AD/president to fire EC after the recent NCAA tourney mess. At least, this will force them to schedule better......I think.

And you want RD to make the hire?

Of course it is.

RD's job is also very safe. Cowen's vacation package is very safe. The continuation of the Tulane model is very safe.

Re: US World and News Rankings. Tulane Law #50, Bus #61

Tulane needs to put all of its focus/resources/money on the undergrad, IMO. That ranking HAS to be fixed and frankly needs to be if TU is to thrive long-term. The bubble has now burst for law schools (applications and enrollment are way down nationwide) and Tulane requires far too much debt for a sc...

Re: Mark Cuban: This Is Just The Start Of The College Implos

I think Tulane's endowment insulates the school from real disaster for the time being. But I agree that TU could be headed for trouble in the near future. Higher ed will be going through MAJOR changes over the next decade and the market for most $50 or 60K/year liberal arts schools is going to fade.

Re: Football Spring Practice

I came away very discouraged by the spring game. 7 wins would be an enormous task based on the talent, size and coaching....and I hope I am very very wrong. I'm slightly more optimistic, but I see 5-7/4-8 as a likely outcome for 2015. The offense should be marginally improved and the defense is dec...

Re: Tulane has a 15m to 20m a year deficit and Cowen covered

I noticed that, too. Mrs. Cowen is "earning" $112K in her current position, which I'm sure benefits the university greatly.

So the Cowens are receiving $1.1MM/year (while on vacation, mind you) as the school runs a $20MM deficit. It's truly mind-boggling.

It really makes no sense whatsoever, especially when we already have a continuing studies school with open admissions.

TU really needs a kinesiology degree program and immediate JUCO help for men's basketball and football.

Re: duh schedule

That's my thinking as well. I think Tulane will be a double digit underdog in only 1 or 2 games (Ga. Tech for certain). The safe pick is 5-7, so I'll still with that mark. But an upset win against Duke or UCF could change everything.

Re: duh schedule

My initial thoughts: 1. The Duke game could be a 2 or 3 game swing for Tulane. If TU can pull an upset, I can find 7 wins. 2. The November games are all extremely winnable. 3. If the offense is just marginally improved, TU can finish well within the middle of the treadmill in the AAC. 4. My realisti...

Re: Your Take on the State of TU Athletics 2015

Football: Poor. Record is 23-63 since 2008. Program has fallen behind peers such as La. Tech, Rice and ULL. New conference helps, not sure about stadium. Coaching is a huge question mark. MBB: Below average. Conroy is not a terrible coach, but the program is nowhere near the glory days of the early-...
