Re: Jon Sumrall
All over Twitter now, Is Sumrall an upgrade over Fritz? We’ll see, but I think I’m happier kicking off with Sumrall instead of another year of Fritz because he’s younger and has Tulane ties (note that I’ve talked myself into this over the past couple days :D ). Regardless, it’s notice to the other c...

Re: Jon Sumrall
Tag along from an infrequent poster but follower of all things Tulane. There is a lot of smoke around Sumrall, not just from the media but from the Troy camp. Troy has a bowl game to prep for, making this a distraction similar (nog identical obviously) to the Fritz move, if there wasn’t something th...

Re: 2020 Famous Idaho Potato Bowl
Tulane has appeared in 4 bowl games in 20+ years, and people want to skip one this year. What a joke.
If we get a bid to the North Pole bowl we should pack snowshoes, pile into the damn sled, and play football.

Re: UMASS GameDay Thread
Anyone find the game scheduled on any channel? I cannot locate a listing on ESPN3 (or any other ESPN sub-channel) although they do show powerhouses SELa and Lamar. Glad you brought this up, I cannot find it on ESPN3 either! It's not on ESPN3. UMASS doesn't have an ESPN affiliation. It's only on Dir...

Re: Wave loses opener 7-3
A lot of things to look back in hindsight, and room for improvement on offense and play calling. Would have been nice to win that game, it was right there for the taking. Clearly the coaching is miles above last year, it's night and day.
Very optimistic going forward, for the first time in years.

No word on Memphis, I'd have a lot more respect for the process if they were in the first group getting the ax.

It sure seems like the early reporting on this was complete BS. Colorado State alive per Denver's CBS affiliate: http://denver.cbslocal.com/2016/08/31/csu-survives-first-cut-for-big-12-conference/ Air Force too: "CBS4 has learned that besides CSU, the only other school from the Mountain West Co...

Re: Big XII Expansion
Completely agree, the Pac 12 schools have pretty much nothing in common with BYU. Plus, absent a Texas / OK type combination, there's no reason for the Pac 12 to expand.ajcalhoun wrote:There is zero chance that the PAC 12 would take BYU.

Re: Big XII Expansion
Colorado St - A good sized university with tradition and brings back the Colorado Springs and Denver markets that may have dissipated after the Colorado departure to the Pac 12. Decent upside and a geographical fit. CSU is actually in Fort Collins, an hour north of Denver and two hours from CO Spri...

Re: Big XII Expansion
Lots of interesting buzz, for sure.
As far as "sure-ins" (probably a close relative of of the more common "shoe-ins"), if there were a truly obvious candidate they would already be in the Big 12 (or another P5 conference). So I'm not buying that at all.

Re: Big 12 soliciting
Reality is we can't say on one hand that the vote of the Big 12 FB coaches in that anonymous poll on expansion is meaningless while saying on the other that Pierce's (potential) endorsement of Tulane to the UT brass is meaningful. It's all in the proverbial gumbo. But relationships obviously matter....

Re: Mike Dunleavy will be Tulane's new BB coach
I'm more in line with Greenie78. I just dont like hiring a coach with a losing record. If that is the case, just keep Ed. Thankfully you are not our AD. Conroy vs. Dunleavy isn't a close call. Unless you think it's a good plan to continue to lose a lot. Really, though I am willing to give him a cha...

Re: Mike Dunleavy will be Tulane's new BB coach
TD continues to send the message we're serious about winning. Are you listening Big XII? Exactly, people can debate the hire but it is a positive as a play towards a big conference. Splash, national news, gets Tulane on the radar and shows that there's a new commitment to athletics. I think he will...

Re: Honeymoon is over
I feel for Conroy or anyone getting canned, but this is really a tempest in a teapot. No sh*t he was getting fired, everyone who pays the slightest attention to the program knew it was coming, including Conroy unless he is completely delusional. And as far as the timing, hopefully it motivates the ...

Re: Next Mens Basketball Coach
Looking back, it is fortunate Conroy was not replaced last year because experience with Dickson tells us the replacement coach probably would not have been much better. Absolutely true, I'd like to think Dickson was exercising restraint and not saddling the new AD with a 5 year BB contract, but I t...

Re: Tulane's New AD - Troy Dannen from NIU
The fact that Cowen might have any residual power over Tulane athletics is beyond absurd. Like Exxon keeping Captain Hazelwood on as a tanker bartender absurd.
I like the hire, the guy has a nice track record, and wish him the best.

What would be your reaction if it were Burke/Lionel Washington? Disappointment, but I'd support them both with the hope that they pull some unexpectedly good results. The thing about Burke that is bothersome to me is if Tulane truly conducted a national search, what are the odds that Burke would be...
