Re: UCONN looking to leave AAC for Big East

UConn really thinks mighty of themselves. Losing value by association?

Re: UCONN looking to leave AAC for Big East

One thing positive is, Tulane will get a nice little bump in revenue between the exit fee UConn pays and splitting the TV pie fewer ways. My understanding is the exit fee is $10M, but that's with a 27 month mandatory advance notice. UConn wants to be in the BE by the 2020-21 season, which probably m...

Re: UConn back to Big East?

Yes, if I were betting I'd bet big that they'll look west. That's been the direction of the AAC for a couple of years in Aresco's mind. Could it have been what finally pushed Uconn out? Could it be that it was reactive because he knew this was coming (the UConn to BE rumors have been serious for a ...

Re: UConn back to Big East?

The UConn move would be helpful to WBB in the sense that teams would actually have a chance to win a conf title and the affiliated NCAA tournament bid.

Re: UConn back to Big East?

So who could we possibly invite to fill that slot? I know in the past they talked about UMass. I'd prefer Southern Miss to UMass, personally. Not for any specific benefit. I also thought there was talk of Wichita State bringing back football at some point.

Re: Wave lands a commitment from Justin Ibieta QB!!!!

Not talking necessarily as a starter. I just seem to remember someone from the football team, maybe a DB or a WR who ended up playing G on the basketball team after the football season was over? A bench player of course, but was on the team.

Re: Wave lands a commitment from Justin Ibieta QB!!!!

Haven't we had some football players in recent years play basketball after the football season was over? I don't mean Dunleavy era, but maybe in the 2000s?

Look at the other schools he had on his list. Obviously academics means something to him, with Ole Miss, Duke and Vandy. Guess that's why he chose us over the football factory upriver.

Re: Graff leaving Tulane for Pels

Going to be tough to replace Graff. I wish him the best. From a selfish point of view its too bad that the Pels couldn't just simulcast Joel Meyers and David Wesley to the radio. They do a fantastic job. Then we'd still have Graff. Too bad Graff had to suffer through all the lean years, and now that...

They played together with Stephon Huderson at Petal High. I remember when I was following his season, I noticed that the QB was scoring and rushing almost as much as Huderson was.

Re: More Baseball Schollies?

TOPS is an interesting thing. Its called a scholarship, but in a lot of ways its need-based. How many kids at LSU or Southeastern could afford to go to college if they didn't have TOPS? So doesn't that imply a need? So technically TOPS type programs should be considered need based, not academic bas...

Re: More Baseball Schollies?

No doubt it couldn’t be just for athletes. In fact, Tulane provides tuition relief for many of its students, and I believe it’s completely at the discretion of Tulane as to who gets it, and how much they get. I just don’t know why some of it can’t be directed to athletes who have no scholarships or...

Sounds to me like your daughter has a case of the liberal college student victim mentality, if she lets words make her feel worthless. Didn't you teach her there are no safe spaces in the real world?

Re: Football Recruiting -- 2019

I know there's been a lot of concern here regarding the quality of this class, after last year. This update comes right after the announcement of Darius Hodges. Looks like we're getting closer to matching last years quality. And definitely far better than anything in recent years. YEAR NATL RK AVG ...

Re: More Baseball Schollies?

The connection is obvious, D. Due to Title IX restrictions, you must offer equal numbers of men's and women's scholarships. So in theory, if the NCAA were to increase the number of schollies in women's gymnastics, they could also increase men's baseball by the same amount. Now the thing is, schools ...

Re: 2019 AAC Baseball Tourney Thread

The original footprint for athletics was from Willow to Claiborne Ave. Athletics needs to take back that area including the Reily Center and the Intramural Football Field (Brown Field) in front. The school should relocate / (build a new facility) the Reily Center closer to the Quad. The University ...

Re: 2019 AAC Baseball Tourney Thread

I agree that the 10 miles from campus makes it less attractive than otherwise. I was only comparing facility to facility. And again, the original comments by Sunamiwave and then nawlinspete were only suggesting we make better use of the Turchin footprint, nothing more. We're an urban campus. We have...

sader24, don't be so stupid. You know damn well that wasn't the positive at all, much less the main one. The original mention was to use the Turchin footprint for an IPF and basketball arena, which long term would be more financially beneficial to the school than having baseball play on campus. At w...
